The idea of 'sAkshIbhUtam' (we witness what we do, thinking that this body is not 'I', has been espoused by St. Thyagaraja in his kIrtana 'manasu svAdhInamain' in rAga SankarAbharaNam, which you can have a look at in any Carnatic music book or any Carnatic music site. This is simpler than kapila's SAnkhya philosophy which is more enamoured with numbers such as panca bhUtams, pancha tanmAtras, mano buddhyahankAra cittams, most of which represent metaphysical imaginations. Whether we like it or not, the truth remains, that we are the body, and we are bound to take care of it giving food, bath, titillations and so on.
